Preschool Teacher Assistant

Reports to: Preschool Director 

Pay: $18 – $21 per hour, depending on education and experience 

Status: Part Time (20 – 25 Hours a week) 

Description: The Preschool Assistant role requires someone who is both dedicated and compassionate, as they play a crucial part in the preschool staff. They collaborate with experienced educators to foster a nurturing and engaging atmosphere for children’s development. Additionally, having a personal connection with the Lord is emphasized, alongside a strong passion for aiding and nurturing children. Being a team player is essential, demonstrated through hard work, a positive demeanor, attention to detail, and organizational abilities. Moreover, they should be open to receiving feedback from colleagues or supervisors, showcasing a drive to excel in their tasks while maintaining a compassionate and loving attitude toward everyone they encounter.

Responsibilities: 

  • Support Lead Teachers in fostering academic, social, and emotional growth in students. 
  • Ensure a safe environment for preschoolers, supervising indoor and outdoor activities, transitions, and restroom breaks. 
  • Engage children in educational and play-based activities promoting creativity, exploration, and critical thinking. 
  • Assist in creating a safe and welcoming environment for preschoolers. 
  • Support Lead Teachers’ instructional methods to enhance young learners’ competencies. 
  • Provide positive reinforcement of student behavior to instill Christian values. 
  • Assist in preparing activities by laminating, cutting, and creating materials. 
  • Maintain cleanliness by vacuuming, wiping down surfaces, and sanitizing toys and equipment. 
  • Organize classroom space effectively and assist with setup and teardown as required. 
  • Model and promote positive behavior management techniques, emphasizing cooperation, kindness, and respect. 
  • Collaborate with lead teachers and staff to plan curriculum, assess student progress, and address learning goals. 
  • Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities. 
  • Uphold the mission and values of New Horizon Church Preschool, integrating Christian teachings into daily activities. 

Preferred Certifications and Skills: 

  • Experience with Preschool-Aged Children 
  • Strong Communication Skills 
  • Team Collaboration Skills 
  • Creative and Flexible 
  • Passion for Early Childhood Education 
  • Thirty hours completed STARS certification 
  • In-person CPR and First Aid Training required 
  • Office 365 Competency
